2020-04-23 The winners of the WAN-IFRA European Digital Media Awards were announced on Thursday, 23 April - with 7 out of 9 coming from Denmark, Norway or Sweden. The Coronavirus crisis has made these projects more relevant than ever – not least in the category of Best Paid Content Strategy, as almost all publishers see a sharp rise in digital subscriptions. While Sweden’s Expressen won the judges’ vote, this was the first year we launched a Members’ Choice Awards. 2020-04-21 Stars4Media has announced the six first projects to participate in its project-driven leadership and training programme for young European media professionals. The one-year programme will support and coach young talents to develop project-based sustainable innovation and encourage cross-border collaboration between European news organisations. The programme is co-funded by the European Union, coordinated by VUB (Vrije Universiteit Brussel), with the support of Fondation EURACTIV, the European Federation of Journalists, and WAN-IFRA. WAN-IFRA has written to Volodymyr Zelensky, President of Ukraine, to express concern over a new bill before parliament that would criminalise the dissemination of misinformation and potentially target legitimate news sources. 2020-04-06 WAN-IFRA, the World Association of News Publishers, is postponing its World News Media Congress in Zaragoza, Spain. The Congress was initially scheduled to take place in June. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, WAN-IFRA and its local host, Henneo Group, have decided to move the event to 17-19 September 2020. Read more ...

2020-04-02 The World Association of News Publishers and the World Editors Forum, which represent 18,000 publications, 15,000 online sites and over 3,000 companies in more than 120 countries, have expressed deep concern at the arrest of Editor-in-Chief of the Jang/Geo Media Group Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman and called for his immediate release. 2020-03-28 El presidente de la Asociación Mundial de Periódicos y Editores (WAN-IFRA), Fernando de Yarza, ha reclamado este sábado financiación a corto plazo para que el sector pueda subsistir ante la crisis en la publicidad provocada por el coronavirus. En una carta abierta, Yarza ha alertado de la urgencia a la que se enfrenta el sector: "Cuando el periodismo es más necesario que nunca, la publicidad prácticamente ha desaparecido”, mientras que “comprar periódicos es cada vez más complicado”.
